I don’t care if the security guards die

- I don’t care if the security guards at the American embassy die. They’re on American soil, so I don’t care about them.-

This is what the 29 year old male, accused of plotting to attack the American and Israeli embassy, said in a conversation that was wiretapped by Norwegian police last August.

The court in Oslo said in a statement on Saturday that there is substantial reason to believe that the accused were planning to go ahead with the attacks, and not just simply talking about it.

The 29 year old and his accomplice drove past the US and the Israeli embassy when they talked about killing the security guards at the American embassy.

I’ll take out the entire building.

The two of them discussed explosives, weapons and prices in these conversations. Other details were also discussed. They were going to prevent the police from pursuing them by throwing nails on the road. They were also referring to a metal barrier outside the American embassy that had to be destroyed. They also studied the surveillance system outside the embassy. They even discuss which lawyers to get if the attack should fail.

- ...The problem then is to shoot them, they won’t enter as a group ...... So they arrive at different times ..... arrive in groups .......And when they’re leaving, they’re not leaving together ..... If they arrive together then ...... to hit eight or ten ....if you know what I mean, then it would work ...... doesn’t move as a group ..... then shoot..... maybe one or two, would work.... So the only thing I thought was, heck let’s take out the entire building.-

Attack against the synagogue.

Further along in the conversation they discuss throwing hand grenades at the embassies.

- Don’t care if the security guards at the American embassy die, they’re on American soil, I don’t care about them.-

The conversation also suggests that there are several people involved in the plot.

- I have three yeah? Four with you, says the 29 year old who is believed to have had an affair with a female TV journalist in TV2 (Norwegian TV channel)

In the conversation they also discuss the attack against the synagogue.

- ...when I strike against the synagogue ..... one grenade, maybe two .... the same night you know ... -

Three of the four suspects accused of planning to attack the embassies were jailed on Saturday and placed in solitary confinement from two to four weeks. The fourth suspect was released.
