American embassy in Oslo is being evacuated.

Breaking news.

Suspicious object found.

Police are asking people to leave.

(VG Nett) A suspicious object has been discovered in a container in Hanstensgate in Oslo. Police have cordoned off a large area around the American embassy, and are now in the process of evacuating the embassy and one of the buildings next to it.

- I have been asked to get inside, said Tom Edell, a resident who lives in Cort Adlersgate, to VG Nett.

According to VG Nett’s reporter at the location, police are asking everyone in the area to leave.

Those who live in the neighbouring buildings are not allowed inside, but must remain outside the police cordons.

According to NTB (Norwegian news agency) the police are now in the process of evacuating the American embassy.

VG Nett has been informed that the police are also evacuating Hanstensgt. 8, a private residence, and that the evacuees are temporarily re-housed at the UD (foreign office)

Update.

False alarm..

The bomb squad at Oslo police station have with the help from bomb sniffing dogs now established that there wasn’t any explosives inside the container.
